Peel Apples, cut into quarters, remove cores, cut each quarter into slices. Put Apples, sugar and water in saucepan, cover, bring to boil, boil 5 mins until apple has broken down to a pulp, cool.
Sif Flour, ginger and soda, rub in butter until mixture resembles fin breadcrumbs, stir in brown sugar. Beat egg, golden syrup and milk together, add to flour mixture and beat until smooth. Place apple pulp in base base of a greased 20 pie plate, pour ginger mixture evenly over the top. Bake in moderate oven 30 to 35 minutes. Cut into slices and serve with cream and custard.
